The STAR Program at Lovin' Life has Launched!

Five STAR Guides and about a dozen others participated in the first session of the STAR Program at Lovin' Life on October 23rd at the Emergence Community Arts Collective. The purpose of the STAR Program is to help participants find lasting happiness by living a purposeful life that honors sexual abstinence, healthy relationships and a God-centered world view. The session began with a Lovin' Life Ministries video service, including the songs "Butterfly", "Wonderful World", "Bridge over Troubled Waters", "Mint Car, and "Everlasting" love. Lovin' Life pastor In Jin Moon gave an inspirational message about the kind of attitude that young people need if they want to "rule the world", emphasizing the importance of your parents, appreciating small things, and learning self control.
After a break for pizza, veggies, and snacks, a discussion of the devotional was led by Howard University Junior Miracle Worrell. Miracle shared how the words from the song "Butterfly" inspired her. She led the youth in thinking about how the best place to start to be a true "ruler of the world" is with yourself. Next, Miracle, Sarah Urban and Yun-a Johnson presented a PowerPoint presentation on Protecting your Future. Participanats had a chance to reflect on what their goals in life are, and also how the use of alcohol, drugs and sexual activity outside of marriage can affect those goals.
The STAR Program is for middle school, high school and young adults. Parents of youth enrolled in the program are also welcome.
There are still a couple of places available in this program series.

The program continues each week until December 11th at the Emergence Community Arts Collective, 733 Euclid St. NW from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Call Richard or Stacey Urban at 202-544-5081 for more information, or This email address is being protected from spambots. Legislation and Governance

The South Capitol Street Tragedy Memorial Act of 2011 is bad legislation

The South Capitol Street Memorial Act of 2011 will create an intrusive government bureaucracy and will ask teachers to take on an extra workload to do mental health evaluations.
We need more family strengthening and less government intrusion. The inability of the District's Youth and Rehabilitative Services Agency as well as the Child and Family Services Agency to properly care for those under their respective jurisdictions should give us pause in creating yet another government bureaucracy.
Also, with a budget shortfall, how can this monstrous bureaucracy be funded?
This bill should be killed now, and more effort given to supporting community based education to prevent risky behavior among our youth. Studies show that behaviors such as being suspended from school are related to other risky behaviors, such as sex outside of marriage. A character based, abstinence affirming sexual health education alternative to the condom based approach now used in DC would be a good place to start in reducing risky behavior among DC youth.

Email all DC Councilmembers plus the mayor now and ask them to kill this bill by using our email tool:
