FYI: Many of you have been asking about health freedom bills this year. Here are the ones we have so far:

1. SB 406 Senator Rucker
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to remove the hepatitis B vaccine from the vaccines mandated by this state or required for admission to a public, private, and parochial school in this state or a state-regulated child care center.

2. HB 2728. Delegates Worrell, J. Pack, Steele, D. Jeffries, J. Jeffries, Paynter, and Bridges
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to clarify that the commissioner of Public Health shall not expand compulsory immunization requirements for school children unless the Legislature explicitly authorizes such expansion.

3. HB 2271 Delegates Steele and Sypolt
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require compulsory immunization of public school children. The bill removes references to private and parochial schools from compulsory immunization.

4. HB 2272 Delegates Steele and Sypolt
Informed Consent Protection Act
informed consent for vaccinations; prohibiting discrimination against patients for declining or delaying vaccines; establishing prohibited activities; creating rights for patients; and establishing monetary penalties and revocation of licensure for violations.

5. HB 2289 Delegates Steele and Sypolt
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to permit physicians to provide exemption certificates relating to required immunizations. It removes requirement for certain personnel to report persons not immunized.

6. HB 2783 Delegates Steele, Foster, Summers, J. Pack, Toney, J. Jeffires, McGeehan, Gearheart, Jennings, Sypolt, and Kimble
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to permit a physician, as 46 other states allow, to grant a child a medical exemption from the required immunizations for entering a school or a state- regulated child care center. The position of Immunization Officer is eliminated.

7. SB 426 Senator Karnes
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to permit parents or legal guardians of newborn children to refuse certain medication that has been mandated for newborns. The bill requires that parents and legal guardians be made aware of the dangers of not receiving the otherwise required medication. The bill provides for notation in medical records. The bill provides for limitation of liability. The bill prohibits a refusal by the parents or legal guardian from being admissible in certain legal actions or investigations of the parents and legal guardians. The bill prohibits discipline or penalties to certain health care professionals when a parent or legal guardian has refused or declined the otherwise mandated medication.
